How your data is handled
No lawyer-speak — exactly what we collect and why. The formal version is our Privacy Policy.
What we collect
- Usage stats — minutes per app and its category, and how often you unlock, read through Android's Usage Access.
- Your home city — to compare you with people near you.
- Age & gender — only if you add them; used to refine your cohort.
- A device identifier — so each device counts once and benchmarks stay fair.
- Email / Google sign-in — only to secure your account and let you recover it.
- Advertising ID — only if you opt in. Ads keep Percentl free; opting in lets our ad partner personalize them. Your usage data is never used to choose your ads and your ad ID never enters our analytics; you can switch it off anytime in You (we delete it), and declining just means non-personalized ads.
- Friend Circles (optional) — if you start or join a Circle, we store its name, invite code, members, the display name you choose, and the daily/weekly totals you agree to share.
What we never touch
- Anything inside your apps or messages — no content, keystrokes, or screens.
- Precise or GPS location.
- Your contacts, photos, or files. We never sell your data.
- Your usage or screen-time data for choosing ads — ads are personalized (if you opt in) only from your ad partner's own profile, never from what Percentl knows about your habits.
Friend Circles — sharing with people you pick
Circles are optional. If you create or join one, the members you invite can see your display name and your daily & weekly screen-time totals — just the totals, never which apps you use and never your location. It only turns on when you opt in to that circle, and you can leave anytime to stop sharing. It's the one place anyone else can see your numbers, and we never share circle data with advertisers.
How benchmarks work
Before your usage enters our analytics, your identifier is replaced with a one-way hash. You're only ever compared inside cohorts of 1,000+ people, so no individual ever stands out.
You're in control
Tap Delete your data in the app's You tab to erase everything, permanently — removed immediately and fully purged within 30 days. You can leave any Circle anytime to stop sharing, and deleting your data removes you from every circle too. You can turn off Usage Access in your phone's Settings anytime to stop collection.
